A High Court advocate and political commentator Wahome Thuku has made a bold prediction about Kenya’s 2027 presidential race, claiming that Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is on track to become the country’s sixth president.
According to Thuku, who is a close ally of DCP leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo stands a strong chance—about 70 percent—of defeating President William Ruto in the upcoming polls.
He said the growing momentum around Kalonzo’s candidacy has already unsettled the Kenya Kwanza leadership, especially in regions where Ruto previously enjoyed solid support.
Thuku suggested that the president’s recent charm offensive in Ukambani, marked by numerous promises and development pledges, is part of a calculated move to weaken Kalonzo’s influence at home.
“People of Kitui, your son Kalonzo Musyoka will be on the presidential ballot in 2027, and he has a 70 percent chance of becoming Kenya’s next president,” Thuku declared, adding that he intends to vie for the Othaya parliamentary seat under the Democratic Congress Party.
He warned residents of the Eastern region not to fall for what he described as recycled political rhetoric from the president, saying that the Mount Kenya region had already learned the hard way after being swayed by Ruto’s promises.
“Kambas have always stood by Kalonzo, even when he was only a running mate. This time, the race is his to win. It is now or never,” Thuku said.
His remarks have sparked fresh debate about Kalonzo’s political prospects, with many observers viewing him as a key figure in the post-Raila Odinga era and a possible unifying force for the opposition ahead of 2027.
