After Three Failed Attempts, David Keter Finally Wins UDA Ticket to Succeed Johana Ng'eno in Emurua Dikirr Race

Businessman David Keter has secured the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nomination ticket for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat after years of failed attempts to unseat the late Johana Ng'eno.

Keter emerged victorious in the party primaries held on Friday, March 27, 2026, after garnering 13,759 votes across 96 polling stations.

His closest rival, Bernard Kipkoech Ng’eno, managed 13,394 votes in a tightly contested race that now places Keter as the frontrunner ahead of the upcoming by-election.

The nomination exercise, however, was not without controversy, with reports of alleged bribery, repeat voting, and proxy voting surfacing in some polling centres.

Despite these concerns, UDA officials confirmed the outcome, declaring Keter the winner based on the final tally.

The results were announced by UDA National Election Board Vice Chairperson Veronica Chebet at Emurua Dikirr Secondary School, who stated that the process had been largely smooth and that the will of the voters had prevailed.

Following the announcement, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen congratulated Keter, praising his resilience and persistence after multiple unsuccessful attempts in previous elections. He also commended Bernard Ng’eno for putting up a strong challenge.

In response to the disputes raised, the Electoral and Nominations Disputes Resolution Committee (ENDRC), led by Adrian Kamotho, urged aggrieved parties to file any complaints within 24 hours of the results declaration.

The by-election in Emurua Dikirr was necessitated by the death of Johana Ng'eno, who lost his life in a tragic helicopter crash on February 28, 2026, in Nandi County.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has since scheduled the by-election for May 14, 2026, where Keter will seek to translate his party victory into a parliamentary win in the constituency with over 44,000 registered voters.
