Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has strongly condemned the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, describing it as “barbaric” and a serious threat to Kenya’s democratic space.
Expressing concern over the attack after visiting him at the Karen Hospital, Kuria questioned the motive behind targeting a leader he described as peaceful and moderate.
“I do not understand why anyone in their right mind would attack Senator Osotsi, a very peaceful, measured, and moderate leader,” Kuria said.
Kuria warned that the increasing use of hired goons poses danger to the country.
“As I have been warning, the now liberalised goon market in Kenya is a serious threat to our security and democracy,” he added.
Kuria called on investigative agencies to move with speed in probing the attack and ensuring those responsible are brought to book.
He emphasized the need for decisive action to deter similar incidents in the future.
“I condemn this attack in the strongest terms possible and urge the relevant authorities to ensure expeditious investigations and action,” he said.
He further warned that failure to address such acts of violence could invite external scrutiny, including potential intervention by international bodies such as the International Criminal Court (ICC).
