Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has commended residents of Kisumu for stepping forward with critical information to identify the assailants behind the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
Speaking after visiting Osotsi’s family in Kitengela, Sifuna highlighted the crucial role locals played in assisting law enforcement.
“The people of Kisumu have done a remarkable job. They have helped point out the individuals involved and even identified the financier behind this attack. The police now have the necessary leads,” Sifuna said during a press briefing on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
The senator, however, expressed concern over what he described as slow action by the authorities despite the availability of key information.
“This inaction on the part of the police is unacceptable,” he added, emphasizing the need for swift justice to prevent further incidents.
The attack on Osotsi occurred on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at a Java House outlet in Kisumu. He was rushed to Nairobi for treatment after sustaining injuries.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) condemned the attack, assuring the public that investigations were ongoing and that critical leads from CCTV footage were being followed.
Meanwhile, Siaya Governor James Orengo also criticized the slow response by local police, suggesting that possible interference may be hindering the investigation.
Despite images of the attackers circulating widely, no arrests have yet been made, raising concerns over enforcement efficiency.
The collaboration between citizens and authorities in Kisumu has highlighted the importance of community engagement in tackling violent crimes and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
