The deceased, a Form Two student at a senior secondary school in the Mathare North area, is reported to have died on Friday night, just hours after being assaulted by her father over claims that she had spent two nights away from home without informing her parents.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents and renewed debate on the limits of parental discipline.
According to neighbours, the girl’s father, aged 43, became enraged upon learning of his daughter’s alleged absence from home.
He was reportedly joined by his two sons, who together confronted the teenager in what witnesses described as a violent disciplining mission.
Residents said the beating escalated quickly, forcing the frightened girl to flee in search of safety.
In a desperate attempt to escape the assault, the girl ran to her aunt’s house within the same neighbourhood.
However, witnesses allege that the group followed her there and continued beating her, ignoring pleas from those nearby. Moments later, the girl reportedly collapsed.
Alarmed residents attempted to intervene, but it was too late. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the incident, the suspects allegedly fled, leaving the girl’s lifeless body behind.
Police officers from the area were alerted and launched an immediate manhunt. Authorities confirmed that the father was later arrested at a house within Mathare and taken into custody.
He is currently being detained as police complete investigations, with murder charges expected to follow.
The girl’s body was moved to the mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
