Speculations As Sifuna And Gachagua Meet At A Muranga Burial As 2027 Politics Quietly Take Center Stage

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna appeared beside former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a burial in Muranga County on January 3 2026.

The service honored Alice Wangari Gakuya the mother of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya.

What seemed a quiet farewell quickly turned political as leaders shared space watched closely by mourners and online audiences from across the country and rival camps within Kenya today nation.

Photos later shared online showed Sifuna seated next to Gachagua and allies from the Democracy for Citizens Party. Nyandarua Senator John Methu was also present.

The images spread fast and sparked debate about changing alliances. Many noted the moment happened deep in Mt Kenya a region linked closely to Gachagua influence.

It drew sharp interest from critics supporters and neutral observers alike during the funeral day.

James Gakuya addressed mourners and surprised many with warm words for Sifuna. He said he would be open to work with him if he runs for Nairobi governor.

The crowd reacted with loud cheers. The response showed rare goodwill across parties especially in Embakasi North where urban voters value cooperation.

It also hinted at future teamwork despite party differences during the heated campaign season ahead nationally.

The meeting comes as ODM faces internal strain over ties with the broad based government.

Sifuna has openly questioned deals he says weaken opposition values. Gachagua who was impeached in 2024 now leads DCP and courts dissatisfied figures.

He has hinted support for leaders like Sifuna and Babu Owino in 2027. These moves keep talk of new alliances alive nationwide as pressure grows within parties daily.

Analysts say funerals often double as political stages in Kenya.

Shared platforms send signals without speeches. Sifuna has said he rarely meets Gachagua yet public sightings are increasing.

Neither leader addressed politics directly at the burial.

Still the images spoke loudly to voters watching future paths form between Mt Kenya and Nairobi blocs as campaigns quietly start to take shape ahead of national polls soon.

The Muranga funeral drew hundreds of mourners and leaders from different sides. Grief mixed with careful gestures and measured smiles. For many the day captured a shifting mood.

With ODM divided and Mt Kenya restless the path to 2027 looks fluid. Small moments like shared seats may shape big decisions that redefine opposition politics in ways few expect across the country during coming election years
