RIP: The Last Painful Question a Woman Was Asked by Her Brother Before She Committed Suicide

Deep sorrow has engulfed the peaceful village of Kangari in Kigumo Constituency, Murang’a County, following a devastating family tragedy that claimed the lives of a young mother and her child on the eve of the New Year.

The incident has left residents in shock, struggling to understand how such a painful event could occur within their community.

The 25-year-old woman had returned to her parents’ home in early December to celebrate the festive season with family and close friends.

According to those who interacted with her, the visit was filled with laughter, bonding and joyful reunions.

She appeared calm, cheerful and emotionally stable, showing no visible signs that she was battling any serious personal struggles.

Concern began to grow on the last day of the year after a brief and seemingly harmless exchange between the woman and her younger brother.

He later recalled that he saw his sister holding a rope and jokingly asked if she intended to use it to harm herself.

At the time, neither he nor other family members suspected that this simple question would become a haunting memory.

Shortly afterward, the brother stepped out on an errand she had asked him to run.
As evening approached, a neighbour became worried after noticing unusual silence around the woman’s rental house and alerted the family.

What followed was a devastating discovery that sent shockwaves through the entire village.

Authorities were immediately informed, and officers arrived at the scene to begin investigations.

The young woman was found to have taken her own life, and tragically, the child who had been left in her care also died during the incident.

The painful loss of two innocent lives has left family members, friends and neighbours overwhelmed with grief.

Relatives described the woman as a warm-hearted, friendly and supportive person who was loved by many.

She had graduated with a finance degree in 2024 and had previously worked in Nairobi before returning home.

Friends revealed that she had been actively searching for stable employment and remained hopeful about her future despite the economic challenges she faced.

As condolences continue to pour in from across the county, the family has appealed to well-wishers for support to help them cope with the loss and make funeral arrangements for their loved ones.

Community leaders have urged families to remain attentive to one another and to encourage young people facing emotional or financial difficulties to seek help early.

The tragedy has renewed urgent calls for stronger mental health awareness programmes and expanded employment opportunities for the youth, as the village continues to mourn two lives lost far too soon.
