Tension erupted along a busy road after a bus narrowly escaped being set ablaze by angry boda boda riders following a dramatic accident that left one rider seriously injured.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when the bus driver allegedly applied sudden brakes without warning.
A boda boda rider who was closely trailing the bus failed to stop in time and rammed into its rear, crashing onto the tarmac. The impact left the rider badly hurt as shocked onlookers rushed to his aid.
Within minutes, fellow boda boda operators and members of the public gathered at the scene in fury.
Tempers flared as riders accused the bus driver of reckless driving and endangering lives on the road.
Some were heard shouting, “Hatutachoma gari tena, tutakua tunachoma dereva,” expressing deep frustration over repeated road incidents involving public service vehicles.
The situation quickly escalated, with a section of the crowd attempting to confront the driver.
However, intervention from calm bystanders and swift action helped prevent the bus from being torched.
The injured rider was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment as police later arrived to restore order and begin investigations into the incident.
