MP Anthony Kibagendi Accuses William Ruto of Funding Oburu-Led ODM Amid Escalating Party Wrangles

A fresh political storm has emerged after Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi accused President William Ruto of secretly funding the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) faction led by Oburu Oginga.

Speaking on Friday, March 27, during the Linda Mwananchi meeting at Ufungamano House, Kibagendi claimed that government resources were being diverted to support the party amid growing internal wrangles.

The outspoken lawmaker alleged that key sectors such as health and education had suffered due to what he described as misplaced priorities by the government.

He argued that funds meant to improve essential services were instead being redirected, raising serious concerns about governance and accountability.

Kibagendi pointed out that the national budget allocation to State House had significantly increased, while basic programs like school feeding in marginalized regions continued to struggle.

According to him, such disparities reflect a worrying shift in priorities, with ordinary citizens bearing the brunt.

The allegations come at a time when the ODM party is facing deep internal divisions, with rival factions holding parallel meetings in Nairobi.

One group, aligned with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, has been questioning the legitimacy of the leadership and the source of funding for party activities.

The issue of ODM financing has recently sparked intense debate, especially after Sifuna raised concerns about how large-scale rallies under the Linda Mwananchi movement were being funded.

His remarks triggered reactions within the party, with some leaders defending him while others criticised his stance.

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga came to Sifuna’s defence, urging party members to engage in open dialogue instead of attacking those raising genuine concerns.

She also questioned why discussions around the party’s finances and direction were being treated as controversial.

Ruth further highlighted the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in March 2025 between President Ruto and the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

She expressed concern over its slow implementation and noted that declaring it ineffective should not attract backlash.

The unfolding developments have intensified the political tension within ODM, with leaders openly trading accusations over leadership, funding, and the party’s future direction.
