Winnie Odinga Arrives at ODM NDC and Declares Loyalty to Party Amid Growing Internal Divisions

East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga made a notable appearance at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Delegates Convention (NDC) held at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi, reaffirming her allegiance to the party amid escalating internal wrangles.

The much-anticipated convention, held on Friday, March 27, brought together delegates from across the country to deliberate on the party’s leadership and future direction.

The meeting comes at a time when ODM is facing one of its most serious internal divisions in recent years.

Addressing attendees at the convention, Winnie made it clear that she remains firmly rooted in the party, describing ODM as her political home.

Her remarks signaled a strong show of loyalty to the faction holding the official gathering, even as rival groups continue to challenge its legitimacy.

Her presence at the Jamhuri Grounds event stood in contrast to a parallel meeting organised by the Linda Mwananchi faction at Ufungamano House.

The rival group, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, has been vocal in opposing the current leadership and questioning the legality of the convention.

Other prominent leaders aligned with the Ufungamano House meeting include Siaya Governor James Orengo, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

The faction has maintained that its gathering represents the true voice of grassroots supporters within the party.

Winnie’s decision to attend the Jamhuri Grounds convention, while skipping the rival meeting, has further highlighted the deepening divide within ODM.

Political observers view her move as a strategic alignment with the official party structure during a critical moment in its leadership transition.

The dual gatherings taking place simultaneously underline the growing cracks within the party, with each faction seeking to assert its authority and legitimacy.

While the Jamhuri Grounds convention proceeded with formal backing, the opposing group continues to challenge its decisions and direction.
