Mt Kenya MP Raises Alarm Over Mass Grave in His Constituency, Alleges Bodies Transported at Night

Fresh concerns have emerged in Nyeri County after Mukurweini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia raised alarm over the alleged discovery of a mass grave within his constituency, prompting calls for urgent investigations into the circumstances surrounding the burials.

According to the legislator, multiple bodies are believed to have been secretly transported from a hospital in Kieni and buried at Mukurweini Cemetery under unclear circumstances. 

He claimed that the operation was carried out at night using a white pickup truck, with only a few local laborers reportedly involved in the burial process. 

Some of those individuals have since come forward with information, further intensifying concerns about the nature and legality of the exercise.

Kaguchia has demanded a comprehensive and transparent investigation, urging relevant authorities to establish how the bodies were moved, whether proper procedures were followed, and who authorized the burials. 

He emphasized the need for accountability, warning that failure to address the matter could erode public trust in institutions responsible for handling such sensitive cases.

The incident has drawn comparisons to a recent case in Kericho County, where authorities exhumed 33 bodies from a mass grave following a court order. 

In that case, some of the remains were found intact while others consisted only of skeletal parts, all of which were collected and preserved as evidence for further forensic analysis. 

The Kericho exhumation had initially targeted 14 bodies but expanded after additional remains were discovered, raising serious questions about record-keeping and burial practices.

Together, the two incidents have sparked widespread public concern and renewed scrutiny over how bodies are handled by institutions, particularly in cases involving hospitals and unidentified remains. 

Civil society groups and members of the public are now demanding clear answers, with many calling for independent oversight to ensure that investigations are conducted thoroughly and without interference.

Observers say the developments point to potential procedural lapses and, possibly, deeper systemic issues that require urgent attention. 

Questions are also being raised about whether any laws were violated and if there was negligence or deliberate misconduct by those involved.

As pressure mounts, authorities are expected to respond with decisive action to establish the truth and restore public confidence, while ensuring that justice is served for any wrongdoing uncovered.
