What began as a routine political campaign rally in Garbatulla, Isiolo County, in 2007 has continued to raise questions nearly two decades later after a shocking claim of stolen cash from a helicopter linked to senior politician.
The incident occurred during an ODM party rally attended by key leaders, including then Eldoret North MP William Ruto, who had flown to the event by helicopter as part of the campaign trail ahead of the 2007 general election.
Inside the chopper, according to accounts from the event, were bundles of cash whose ownership and purpose have never been publicly explained.
At the time, the rally drew large crowds, tight security, and intense political activity. It was during this busy moment that an alleged daring theft is said to have taken place.
According to reports surrounding the incident, unknown individuals allegedly managed to access the helicopter while attention was focused on the political speeches.
In a bold move, they are said to have escaped with the cash without being detected by security officers on the ground.
Soon after the helicopter took off, it was reportedly discovered that money from the aircraft was missing. The aircraft was ordered back to Garbatulla, and investigations began immediately.
