The faction, led by Bungoma County Governor Ken Lusaka, claims that the nominations do not represent the wishes of the region and has refused the idea that Oparanya must be given the deputy president position in 2027 presidential race.
This reaction is coming at a time when the Kenya Kwanza party is in the midst of talks about forming alliances and making decisions about the running mate for the next presidential elections.
This is happening considering the changes in the politics of ODM and Ruto government.
Lusaka, together with his friends, are said to be demanding that the selection of any candidate from Western Kenya for such positions must be done after proper consultations with leaders and people of the region.
It is known that Western Kenya region is among the electorate base whose support is coveted by presidential candidates owing to its significant size.
It is now evident that the issue of fielding Oparanya as deputy presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 election, whether he is going to choose to contest with Ruto or not, is still unresolved.
Political analysts have noted that more such declarations are anticipated in the coming months.
