Gen Z’s Surprising Reaction Caught on Camera During Gachagua’s Visit In Embu

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua lit up the streets of Mbeere North on Monday morning as he hit the ground running to drum up support for Newton Karish ahead of the November 27 by-election.

What began as a routine door-to-door campaign quickly turned into a social-media storm—thanks to excited Gen Zs who couldn’t resist whipping out their phones.

Gachagua spent the morning weaving through villages in Embu County, greeting residents, visiting small trading centers, and holding quick chats with boda boda riders, matatu operators, and local business owners.

His easy interactions drew crowds at every stop, but it was the younger voters who completely stole the show.

At one point, a group of enthusiastic youths spotted him approaching and instantly burst into cheers. Within seconds, they surrounded him—phones up, angles checked—ready for selfies.

Gachagua obliged with smiles, handshakes, and even a few playful poses. Photos of the moment hit Facebook almost immediately, sparking a wave of reactions across the country.

The politician also shared tea with villagers who welcomed him warmly, creating scenes that felt more like a family reunion than a political tour.

But it was the selfie frenzy that dominated conversations online, with some Kenyans praising his ability to connect with young people while others joked about Gen Z turning every political event into a photoshoot.

Opinions varied, debates raged, but one thing was clear—the Embu campaign trail had officially gone viral.
