Kinyua Breathes Fire, Claims Oburu & Ruth Odinga’s Outburst Are Driven by Personal Ambitions, Not Party Principle

Political strategist Justin Kinyua has accused acting ODM leaders Oburu Odinga and Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga of allowing personal ambitions to overshadow the principles of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Kinyua said the Odinga siblings are seeking their “share” as emerging party leaders rather than focusing on the party’s legacy or national interests.

“The noise Oburu and Ruth Odinga are making isn’t about principles; it’s about eating their fair share as new ODM bosses,” Kinyua said.

He argued that the duo is more concerned with asserting their influence and securing positions of power following the passing of the late Raila Odinga, the party’s founding figure and former prime minister.

Kinyua further claimed that the agreement between President William Ruto and Raila Odinga, which shaped key political alliances, ended with Raila’s death on October 15.

According to Kinyua, Oburu and Ruth appear unwilling to honor this understanding, choosing instead to prioritize personal gains within the party hierarchy.

Political analysts suggest that Kinyua’s remarks reflect broader tensions within ODM, as the party grapples with succession questions and its strategic direction ahead of upcoming elections.

With Raila Odinga’s absence leaving a leadership vacuum, debates over party governance and alliances have intensified, sometimes spilling into public outbursts that critics say undermine party unity.

Observers note that the Odinga family has historically wielded significant influence in ODM, and the latest disputes signal the challenges of balancing family leadership with broader party democracy.

While Oburu and Ruth Odinga have defended their interventions as efforts to safeguard the party’s principles and legacy, Kinyua insists that the timing and tone of their actions suggest a personal agenda.

As ODM navigates this transitional phase, Kinyua’s commentary underscores a critical question for the party: whether leadership decisions will be guided by loyalty to founding ideals or by individual ambitions.

The coming months are expected to clarify how these internal power dynamics will shape the party’s future and Kenya’s political landscape at large.
