Moses Kuria Beaten And Injured in Mbeere North After Chaotic Encounter on Campaign Trail

Former Senior Economic Advisor in the Executive Office of the President, Moses Kuria, is reported to have sustained head injuries following a violent confrontation during his campaign activities in Mbeere North.

Images circulating widely on social media show Kuria with a bandaged head, the white cloth marked with light traces of blood. The photos, which have sparked heated debate online, were reportedly taken moments after the incident.

Kuria had travelled to Mbeere North to rally support for the Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) candidate ahead of Thursday’s by-election.

The contest has become a magnet for heavy political involvement, drawing senior figures from across the national landscape.

According to preliminary accounts from individuals present at the scene, the confrontation began after groups believed to be aligned with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) confronted Kuria’s entourage.

Witnesses allege that the quarrel escalated quickly, resulting in Kuria being roughed up before his security team intervened. 

Local police have not yet issued a formal statement confirming the circumstances, but sources suggest an investigation is underway.

The Mbeere North by-election has turned into one of the most closely watched political events in recent months.

Although several candidates are on the ballot, the race has largely narrowed into a fierce competition between camps backed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki.

Their rivalry has turned the constituency into a battleground for political influence in the Mt. Kenya East region.

Gachagua, who has thrown his weight behind the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate, has been framing the contest as a test of political loyalty and a chance to reassert his grip on the region.

On the other side, Kindiki—now one of the most prominent figures in President William Ruto’s administration—is keen on solidifying his growing influence. 

The direct involvement of these two national heavyweights has heightened tensions, drawing in rival supporters and increasing the stakes of the by-election.

Kuria has not yet issued a detailed statement about the attack, though close allies have condemned the violence and accused rival forces of attempting to intimidate candidates and their supporters.

As the constituency heads into the final stretch before voting day, security agencies are expected to intensify surveillance to prevent further disorder. 

The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of political actors and the rising temperature of local campaigns.
