Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has strongly criticized the idea of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) supporting President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, warning that such a move could push the party back into the opposition.
Speaking during an interview with k24 digital, Sifuna argued that aligning the party with Ruto’s administration would contradict the political mood among many Kenyans who are frustrated with the current government.
“Njia haswa ya ODM kujikuta kwa upinzani tena ni kujiunga na William Ruto na mimi naamini anaenda nyumbani. Wakenya hawataki kumpa nafasi nyingine kuongoza nchi hii,” Sifuna told supporters during the rally.
His remarks reflect the deepening internal divisions within ODM over whether the party should cooperate with the Kenya Kwanza administration or maintain a firm opposition stance.
Sifuna has been actively leading the rallies alongside several influential ODM figures, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Siaya Governor James Orengo. The leaders have consistently voiced concerns about the party’s current political direction.
According to them, the party risks losing its identity if it becomes closely associated with the government.

They argue that ODM has historically positioned itself as a defender of ordinary Kenyans, especially during times of economic hardship.
The leaders also claim that many citizens are struggling with the rising cost of living, increased taxation, and broader economic pressures.

For that reason, they believe any alliance with President Ruto’s administration could damage the party’s credibility among voters.
Political analysts say the dispute reveals a significant ideological and strategic divide inside ODM. One faction believes cooperation with the government could promote national unity and stability, while another group insists that remaining in opposition is necessary to maintain the party’s political identity.
The debate comes at a critical moment as Kenya’s political landscape gradually shifts toward the next general election cycle.
Observers note that how ODM resolves its internal disagreements could significantly shape the future of the opposition and influence political alliances ahead of 2027.
For now, Sifuna and his allies appear determined to continue mobilizing supporters through the Linda Mwananchi rallies.
