Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has sparked a major controversy after raising alarm over what he described as a “clandestine operation” in Kenya’s fuel importation process, demanding accountability from both government officials and private players.
Ole Kina accused key actors of bypassing the Kenya Bureau of Standards, warning that such actions could expose Kenyan motorists to substandard fuel while also posing serious environmental risks.
At the center of the dispute is One Petroleum, which the senator claims was allowed to import fuel before receiving formal exemption approval.
He questioned how the company secured such preferential treatment while operating outside the government-to-government (G2G) fuel import framework.
Ole Kina contrasted this with the treatment of Oryx Energies, which had reportedly been contracted to supply KEBS-compliant fuel by a set deadline but was sidelined at the last minute.
The abrupt cancellation of its contract has raised further questions about transparency and fairness in the procurement process.
“This is not negligence,” Ole Kina stated.
“It looks like deliberate sabotage of standards, pricing, and public safety.”
His remarks suggest deeper concerns about possible manipulation within the fuel supply chain, potentially affecting millions of consumers.
The senator has called for full disclosure of all details surrounding the matter, including timelines, approvals, and individuals involved.
He emphasized that Kenyans deserve clarity, accusing authorities of previously burying similar scandals under technical explanations and political narratives.
The allegations have triggered intense debate, with stakeholders in the energy sector and governance circles weighing in on the potential implications.
If proven, the claims could have far-reaching consequences for regulatory oversight, public trust, and environmental protection.
Ole Kina insisted that all implicated parties, including senior government officials, must take responsibility for both their actions and inactions.
As pressure mounts, the spotlight is now firmly on authorities to respond, investigate, and restore confidence in Kenya’s fuel management systems.
