Hundreds of Youth Rally in Nairobi to Back President Ruto’s Development Agenda and Civic Engagement

Hundreds of young Kenyans rallied in Nairobi on Thursday, showing support for President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government’s development initiatives.

The demonstration, organized under the banner of the “Niko Kadi Na Ruto” movement, concluded at Anniversary Towers, where speakers encouraged youth participation in civic and political processes.

Nicholas Galgalo, National President of Bunge la Mwananchi, told the crowd that the initiative aims to empower young people to actively shape Kenya’s political future.

“The ‘Tuko Kadi’ campaign is about ensuring young people are registered, informed, and ready to take part in democratic processes. It also highlights support for leadership that is delivering results,” Galgalo said.

He defended the administration against critics, saying opposition often stems from bias rather than performance. Galgalo cited several government achievements, including the delivery of 273,000 affordable housing units, the reduction of fertiliser prices from Sh7,000 to about Sh2,500, and the recruitment of roughly 100,000 teachers to strengthen the education sector.

Ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the Mau Summit-Rironi road, were also highlighted as crucial for enhancing connectivity and economic growth.

Participants praised the “Kazi Majuu” programme, which has reportedly enabled over 530,000 Kenyans to secure employment abroad since September 2022.

The “Niko Kadi” movement, derived from Sheng slang meaning “I have a card,” has gained traction among young people as a symbol of voter registration and civic engagement ahead of the next General Election.

Galgalo concluded by urging Kenyans to recognize the government’s progress and remain engaged. “The journey continues, and the work and transformation must be appreciated,” he said.
