Nyeri Governor has announced his decision to align with President William Ruto, citing the President’s efforts to deliver development, particularly to residents of Nyeri County.
The governor emphasized that his choice reflects the mandate given to the President by voters and his commitment to advancing local projects.
Speaking to journalists, the governor noted that he has witnessed President Ruto’s work firsthand and believes continued collaboration will benefit the county.
“We voted for President Ruto to deliver development, and he has been working hard, especially for the people of Nyeri. That is why I will walk with him,” he said.
The governor also addressed critics who opposed his decision, asserting that collaboration with the government is essential for effective service delivery.
He argued that “the government cannot work with the opposition everywhere,” suggesting that aligning with the administration ensures projects and resources reach the county.
Political observers note that the governor’s decision marks a return to President Ruto’s camp after previously being a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
His shift underscores the fluid nature of political alliances in Kenya ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in regions where development and resource allocation remain key considerations for voters.
The governor’s announcement is expected to influence local political dynamics, particularly among other county leaders weighing their positions ahead of the next general election.
By emphasizing development and pragmatic governance, he aims to consolidate support within the county while signaling a willingness to work constructively with the national government.
The move highlights the growing trend of political realignments in Kenya, with county executives increasingly prioritizing development partnerships over previous political loyalties.
