Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi Responds After Gachagua Claims Young Politicians Are Misleading Ruto

Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi has responded to remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who recently cautioned President William Ruto against relying on young political leaders.

Gachagua, while speaking at a burial event in Nyandarua County, claimed that some youthful politicians had misled the President, particularly during the period leading to his impeachment.

He singled out leaders such as Kimani Ichung'wah, alleging that they played a role in influencing decisions that later affected the political landscape in the Mt Kenya region.

According to Gachagua, these younger leaders had underestimated his political relevance, suggesting he would fade from the scene within a short time.

However, he insisted that he remains active and influential, arguing that such miscalculations contributed to the President losing support in parts of the region.

In response, Wamumbi questioned what he termed as a contradiction in Gachagua’s stance. He pointed out that while the former Deputy President criticizes young leaders, he continues to work closely with youthful politicians within his own political circles.

The MP specifically referenced Nyandarua Senator John Methu, noting that he is among the young leaders allied to Gachagua.

Wamumbi argued that it is inconsistent to warn against engaging young politicians while simultaneously relying on them for political support.

Wamumbi also defended the role of young leaders in governance, suggesting that they bring fresh ideas and energy to leadership.

He emphasized that political progress should not be framed as a generational conflict but rather as a collaborative effort between experienced leaders and emerging voices.

Gachagua, on his part, also urged the President to be cautious about how he addresses regional issues, including avoiding statements that may be perceived as divisive.

He maintained that his criticism was aimed at improving political strategy rather than undermining the administration.
