Nigerian cleric Primate Elijah Ayodele has once again stirred debate in Kenya’s political space after predicting that William Ruto will win re-election in the 2027 General Election.
Ayodele, who previously claimed to have correctly foreseen Ruto’s victory in the 2022 Kenyan General Election, said the President remains politically resilient and difficult to unseat.
In a statement released on Friday, February 20, the outspoken preacher argued that Ruto’s prospects of retaining power will largely depend on the strength and unity of the opposition.
According to the cleric, the opposition is currently fragmented and lacks the cohesion necessary to pose a serious challenge.
He emphasized that only a strong and united coalition would stand a realistic chance of defeating the incumbent.
“Only a powerful coalition can remove Ruto. If there is none, he will secure re-election. With his re-election, the opposition will suffer, as he will introduce new policies that will shake the economy,” Ayodele stated.
He further warned that a second term for Ruto could bring significant economic shifts, suggesting that the President may introduce bold policies capable of disrupting the country’s financial landscape.
Ayodele added that such changes could further weaken an already divided opposition.
The cleric’s remarks come at a time when political realignments are beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 polls.
His prophecy has drawn mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some dismissing it as speculative while others interpret it as a reflection of the current political environment.
As the country gradually moves toward the next electoral cycle, the question of opposition unity is expected to remain a key factor in determining Kenya’s political trajectory.
