Controversial political commentator Robert Alai has launched a sharp attack on senior Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders, accusing them of weakening the party through their handling of disciplinary proceedings against Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
In a strongly worded online statement, Alai criticized what he termed as poor leadership within ODM, arguing that internal divisions and indecision are eroding the party’s influence at a time when it should be strengthening its position as the main opposition force.
His remarks come in the wake of reports that the disciplinary process against Sifuna has been temporarily slowed down after an ODM disciplinary panel extended timelines to allow for further consideration of the case.

His remarks come in the wake of reports that the disciplinary process against Sifuna has been temporarily slowed down after an ODM disciplinary panel extended timelines to allow for further consideration of the case.
According to party officials, the panel agreed to requests for additional directions, effectively pausing any immediate decision on the senator’s fate.
ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen confirmed that the revised timelines will be communicated to the affected parties once the internal review process is concluded.

The delay has sparked debate within the party, with different factions expressing contrasting views on how the matter should be handled.
Alai singled out several senior ODM figures, including Oburu Odinga, Gladys Wanga, and Junet Mohamed, accusing them of presiding over internal wrangles that are damaging the party’s unity. He argued that the leadership appears divided and unable to enforce discipline effectively.
According to him, the ongoing disagreements within ODM are not just isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of internal conflict that is weakening the party’s ability to function cohesively. He warned that continued infighting could cost the opposition significant political ground.
The disciplinary case involving Sifuna began after he allegedly made public remarks that were viewed by some party officials as contradicting or criticizing official party positions. This led to calls for disciplinary action, although the process has now been slowed by procedural delays.
The situation has exposed growing tensions within ODM, with one section of leaders pushing for strict disciplinary action against dissenting voices, while another group advocates for dialogue and internal reconciliation to avoid deepening divisions.
