"We Won't Allow" Kalonzo Warns Ruto Against Postponing 2027 General Election

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has raised alarm over a possible postponement of the 2027 General Election, warning against any attempts to delay the democratic process.

Speaking amid rising tensions linked to clashes between the Kamba and Somali communities, Kalonzo alleged that William Ruto could exploit the situation to create instability and justify postponing the polls.

Kalonzo claimed the government might use the insecurity as a strategy to extend its stay in power, arguing that the President has already lost political support in several key regions.

“So he has lost Kisumu. He has lost Luo Nyanza. He has also lost the Coast. Therefore, the only solution, we believe, is to create disharmony and conflict between Kamba and Somali so that, by chance, he can postpone the elections scheduled to take place in 14 months’ time,” Kalonzo stated.

At the same time, he cautioned communities against engaging in revenge attacks, urging restraint and peaceful coexistence despite growing anger and grief.

His remarks come amid escalating insecurity along the Mwingi–Garissa Road corridor, where a wave of violence has left several people dead, others injured, and property destroyed.

Leaders from the Northeastern region have also warned of a worsening security situation in the border areas of Kitui, Garissa, and Tana River counties.

In a strongly worded statement, the Northeastern Parliamentary Group expressed deep concern over the rising violence, terming it a serious threat to stability and calling for urgent intervention to restore peace in the affected regions.
