NEWS JUST IN: DCI Addresses Arrest of Suspected Serial Killer Collins Jumaisi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has denied reports claiming that they arrested the suspected serial killer Collins Jumaisi, believed to be behind the brutal murders of 42 women whose bodies were discovered in Mukuru kwa Njenga, Nairobi.

According to sources who inspired this story, fake news spread across social media early this week alleging that Jumaisi had been captured in Vihiga County after a violent confrontation inside a matatu.

The reports claimed that he was being held at the Naivasha Police Station, awaiting transfer to Nairobi.

However, the DCI has now officially confirmed that the allegations are false. In a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, detectives clarified that Jumaisi, also known as Kalusha, remains on the run and is still being sought by the authorities.

“Our attention has been drawn to false reports circulating online regarding the re-arrest of Collins Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the Kware murders,” the statement read.

“We wish to clarify that the information is incorrect. Jumaisi remains at large.”

The DCI further appealed to members of the public with any information about his whereabouts to come forward and assist with the ongoing manhunt.

A toll-free hotline — 0800 722 203 — has been provided for anyone willing to share leads.

To encourage public cooperation, detectives announced a Ksh1 million cash reward for any credible information that leads to the suspect’s arrest.

“We remain committed to ensuring justice for the victims and their families. The individual responsible for these heinous acts will be brought to book,” the DCI affirmed.

Jumaisi’s case has drawn national attention since his dramatic escape from Gigiri Police Station in August 2024, alongside 12 other inmates.

Reports indicated that they broke through a wire mesh before scaling a perimeter wall and disappearing into the night.

Following the incident, five police officers were arrested on suspicion of aiding the escape, after claims emerged that the suspects simply walked out of their cells without resistance.

Before the escape, Jumaisi had been detained for 30 days pending investigations into a series of killings that shocked Nairobi residents.

The discovery of more than 40 mutilated bodies dumped near Mukuru Quarry left the nation in fear.

The DCI insists the search for the fugitive remains active and has urged Kenyans to remain vigilant, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with authorities to ensure justice is served.
