Protests Erupt Online After MCA Robert Alai Labels MP Babu Owino a Pig Amid Gubernatorial Debate

A heated online debate erupted after Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai referred to critics of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino as “pigs who praise pigs,” sparking widespread protests on social media.

The controversy began when Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi praised Owino, claiming the MP was “on pole position as Nairobi’s next governor” and dismissing detractors as lacking credentials.

Alai quickly responded, using the provocative metaphor to criticize those he said were unqualified to evaluate Owino’s suitability for Nairobi City County Governor.

Social media users immediately reacted, with many expressing outrage. Goddy tweeted, “Even an infinite number of insults cannot change facts,” while Innit Web3 said, “You’re a pig praising a pig, mbwa wewe.”

Others questioned Alai’s credibility and experience. Vippessy Tintin wrote, “You have no academic credentials dwarf,” while Boaz Mulanda asked how a “warthog from Onjiko understands Nairobi more than anyone else.”

Some highlighted Alai’s past controversies. Amenya82 reminded the public, “Didn’t you attempt to grab someone’s home early this year, Ogwang!”

Supporters of Owino defended the MP, emphasizing his political acumen. Sir Bolo commented,

“Babu’s playing chess while you’re still rolling in the mud counting pawns. Nairobi needs brains, not barn talk.”

Others added humor to the debate, with Joe Cent tweeting, “If this is about pigs… then you must be a warthog,” and Robert Njang’iru asking, “Pigs? What’s wrong with you bro?”

Some social media users challenged Alai’s understanding of Nairobi’s governance needs. Sagittarius A* requested, “List the city’s unique needs,” implying a gap in his argument.

Elvas Kurgat mocked Alai’s stance, noting, “Who knew that criticizing pig fans required first becoming a fan yourself?”

The controversy highlights the growing tension in Nairobi’s political scene ahead of the gubernatorial race, with public opinion sharply divided.

Social media protests demonstrate how online discourse can amplify political disagreements and place candidates and their supporters under intense scrutiny.
