President Ruto Discloses the Government Official He Talks to Every Night Before Bed Time

President William Ruto has lifted the lid on a behind-the-scenes detail about his leadership routine, revealing the one senior government officer he often speaks to before retiring for the night.

Addressing worshippers at the ACK All Saints Pro-Cathedral Church in Maralal, Samburu County, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, Ruto shared that he regularly communicates with Tonny Lenaiyara, the Chief Executive Officer of the Digital Health Authority (DHA).

“You (Samburu) have a good young man, Tonny Lenaiyara. He works with me on matters of SHA. The last person I speak to every evening before I sleep is this young man,” the President said.

According to Ruto, Lenaiyara updates him every night on the progress of the Social Health Authority (SHA) project — a flagship programme under the government’s universal healthcare agenda.

Tonny Lenaiyara has been instrumental in driving Kenya’s digital healthcare revolution. As DHA CEO, his role focuses on integrating technology into public hospitals, improving patient data systems, and ensuring that citizens access efficient healthcare services through digital platforms.

The President described Lenaiyara as a hardworking and visionary young leader who embodies the kind of innovation his administration seeks to promote in government service delivery.

During his address, Ruto also applauded several other leaders from Samburu County holding influential positions in national institutions.

Among them are Bernice Sialaal Lemedeket, the Accounting Officer at the National Police Service; Michael Lenasalon, the Principal Secretary for Devolution; Richard Lesiyampe, the CEO of Kenyatta National Hospital; Raphael Lekolool, CEO of Postbank; and Peter Lengapiani, CEO of Uwezo Fund.

The Head of State lauded their contributions, saying Samburu has produced some of the most dependable and results-oriented professionals in government.

Ruto further revealed that his administration is working closely with the National Treasury to improve infrastructure in Samburu, particularly the road network in Maralal town and its surrounding areas.

“We have already engaged Treasury to ensure Maralal roads and major connecting highways are improved,” Ruto assured.

President Ruto’s remarks offered a rare glimpse into his daily work ethic and communication routine.

His close coordination with the Digital Health Authority boss underscores the administration’s focus on technology-driven governance and accountability in delivering healthcare reforms.

Through young leaders like Tonny Lenaiyara, the President said, Kenya’s digital health transformation is steadily becoming a reality.
