A fresh political storm erupted online after Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba publicly came to the defence of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, brushing off criticism over the poor state of the road leading to his Tseikuru home.
Wamuchomba said the dusty road should not be used to judge Kalonzo’s leadership record.
She argued that while in office, Kalonzo chose to serve the country instead of fixing roads around his own home, calling that a sign of selfless leadership.
Her remarks quickly spread across social media, sparking heated debate. Some Kenyans agreed with her view, saying leaders should be judged by national impact, not personal comfort.
One social media user wrote that many politicians quietly fix their villages first, then forget the rest of the country.
Others were not convinced. Several users questioned why a long serving leader could not ensure basic infrastructure reaches his own home area.
Another commenter said public office comes with responsibility to both home and country, not one over the other.
A different section of users accused Wamuchomba of trying to clean up Kalonzo’s image ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that such statements are part of early political positioning.
The debate has continued to grow, with Kalonzo’s name trending as Kenyans weigh leadership, priorities and accountability.
Kalonzo Musyoka has not issued any statement on Wamuchomba’s remarks, and no official response has come from the Wiper Party regarding the condition of the Tseikuru road.
