Advocate Ndegwa Njiru has strongly criticised Kisii Governor Simba Arati following controversial remarks he made about handling people who disrupt his political rallies.
During Jamhuri Day celebrations at Kisii Stadium, Arati warned that anyone who interferes with his meetings would face retaliation.
He said he would mobilise his supporters to storm the homes of those behind the disruptions, eat their food, and defecate in their toilets.
The remarks triggered widespread anger online, with many Kenyans calling them irresponsible.
Ndegwa Njiru, who plans to run for the Kirinyaga Senate seat in 2027, joined those condemning the governor.
Njiru questioned how the country can achieve its development goals if leaders promote such thinking.
“Who cursed us? Weeee… tutafika Singapore tukiwa tumechoka sana kama these types of leaders are the vision and destiny carriers,” he said.
“Simba Arati, you gathered the poor Abagusii people to come and feed them na uchenzi kama huo?”
He said Arati’s words were low and unbefitting of a leader entrusted with public responsibility.
The criticism comes at a time when politics in Kisii appears to be shifting.
The region has traditionally supported the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, but attention is now turning toward former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
This change has put pressure on leaders such as Arati and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.
Osoro recently faced hostility during by-elections in the area, where candidates linked to Matiang’i won in three centres.
