Why Kenyans Have Been Warned Against Continued Attacks On Odinga Family

Ruth Odinga, a prominent member of the Odinga family, has issued a strong warning against what she termed as disrespectful attacks targeting the family and the legacy of the late Raila Odinga.

Speaking out amid a period of profound grief, she emphasized that such criticisms dishonour not only the Odingas but also the millions of Kenyans who have steadfastly supported Raila Odinga’s decades long political journey.

In an emotional appeal, Ruth stated that these attacks tarnish the family’s name and, more specifically, the memory of Raila Odinga, who is widely celebrated for his relentless fight for democracy and multi party politics in Kenya.

Her defence comes during an exceptionally difficult year for the family, which has endured the loss of two key members, including Raila Amollo Odinga.

"If you cannot mourn with us, leave us alone,” Ruth urged, capturing the family’s desire for respect and space as they navigate their double tragedy.

Her statement underscores the deep personal pain intertwined with the public scrutiny the family continues to face.

The warning highlights the sensitive intersection between private grief and public legacy in Kenyan politics.

As a family that has been at the centre of the nation’s democratic struggles, the Odingas’ personal losses are felt as national moments.

Ruth’s message is a poignant call for empathy, asking critics and political adversaries to acknowledge their humanity and the enduring contributions of Raila Odinga before launching verbal assaults.

This appeal resonates beyond the family, touching on broader themes of respect for the departed and the families they leave behind, especially those who have played pivotal roles in the country’s history.
