South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro has downplayed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i’s growing political activities in the Gusii region, insisting that claims of his dominance in Kisii politics are exaggerated.
Speaking during a recent interview, Osoro dismissed assertions that Matiang’i has consolidated the region behind him ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“It is not true that all leaders in Gusii land have sided with Matiang’i,” Osoro stated. “Stop the rhetoric, show us the plan.”
According to the lawmaker, Matiang’i’s support base within Kisii County is limited, claiming that only a handful of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) back him, while most elected officials continue to support the ruling coalition.
Osoro challenged Matiang’i to move beyond general calls for national reform and present clear, practical proposals for the people.
