Orange Democratic Movement ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and his allies are facing sharp criticism from Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma over the direction the party should take ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a public address, Kaluma accused a faction within ODM led by Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino of attempting to sell the party to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Kaluma used strong words, claiming the leaders were “dancing on Baba’s grave” and working closely with Gachagua, whom he referred to as their “in-law”.
Kaluma alleged that Gachagua has in the past preached exclusion, claiming that some communities do not belong in Kenya.
He further accused the former deputy president of hatred towards ODM leader Raila Odinga, popularly known as Baba.
According to Kaluma, Gachagua did not attend Raila Odinga’s funeral, a move he said was driven by hostility and disrespect to Baba and his supporters.
The MP also revived claims that Gachagua was involved in hostile actions against Raila Odinga in the past, saying it was shocking for ODM leaders to now associate with him.
Kaluma questioned why some party members would trust Gachagua with the future of ODM, yet he has openly opposed Raila and his political ideals.
On the other hand, the Sifuna-led team has taken a different stand.
They are firmly opposed to ODM supporting President William Ruto’s government.
This position goes against a decision announced by party leader Oburu Odinga, who agreed that ODM would support Ruto in a broad working arrangement.
The disagreement has exposed deep divisions within ODM, with leaders publicly trading accusations.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the party now faces internal tension over loyalty, alliances and the true political path it should follow.
