A family in Bungoma County has been thrown into deep mourning after a tragic fight between two brothers allegedly ended in the death of one of them, leaving their mother devastated and the surviving son in police custody.
The heartbreaking incident occurred in Shivakala–Lusokho village in Tongaren Constituency, where 24-year-old Joshua Wafula was allegedly stabbed to death by his 21-year-old brother Davis following a dispute over a pair of gumboots.
Their grieving mother, Doris Nanjala, narrated the painful events that unfolded in their home and led to the shocking tragedy that has left the community in disbelief.
According to Nanjala, the morning began like any other day. It had rained earlier, prompting her daughter Diana to ask Davis where her gumboots were so she could use them.
However, Davis reportedly ignored the question and returned to his house without responding. When the gumboots were later taken from his house, he became angry and confronted his sister.
“He refused to give Diana the gumboots, so she decided to go for them herself. When he realised the boots were no longer there, he came to my house and started arguing with her,” Nanjala explained.
The situation quickly escalated when Davis allegedly picked up a stick and began beating his sister.
The commotion attracted the attention of his elder brother Joshua, who had initially kept away from the dispute. Joshua intervened and tried to calm the situation, urging Davis to stop attacking their sister.
In an attempt to end the argument peacefully, Joshua even offered to buy new gumboots for Diana.
But instead of calming down, the offer reportedly made Davis even angrier.
“When Joshua said he would buy new shoes, Davis accused him of showing off. They started fighting until we separated them,” Nanjala painfully recalled.
Unfortunately, the situation did not end there.
After the fight was broken up, Davis allegedly returned to his house, picked up a knife, and came back to where Joshua was.
He then reportedly stabbed his brother multiple times.
Joshua was rushed for medical help but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
The area Assistant Chief, Fred Wanyonyi, confirmed the incident and said the suspect had already been arrested as investigations continue.
Local leaders have urged the community to support the grieving family and help promote peaceful conflict resolution to prevent similar tragedies.
The shocking incident has also sparked emotional reactions online, with many Kenyans expressing sympathy for the mother who has lost one son while another now faces serious legal consequences.
