Ngunjiri Wambugu Hits Back at Pauline Njoroge Over Party Membership Claims

Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has strongly responded to claims made by Jubilee Party digital communications strategist Pauline Njoroge that he does not hold any position within the party.

The exchange has sparked fresh political debate within the Jubilee Party as discussions intensify over the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The disagreement began after Wambugu questioned the party’s decision to endorse former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as its presidential candidate for the upcoming election.

Wambugu raised concerns about the manner in which the decision was made, suggesting that party members deserved more clarity on whether the choice was final or subject to review.

He also criticized reports that Jubilee could cooperate with the political camp associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to Wambugu, such alliances could raise questions about the party’s leadership direction and credibility among supporters.

However, Pauline Njoroge quickly pushed back against Wambugu’s remarks. She stated that the former Nyeri MP was not speaking on behalf of Jubilee and insisted that he does not hold an official role within the party.

Njoroge further claimed that Wambugu’s criticism was driven by discomfort over the emerging political relationship between Matiang’i and Gachagua as opposition forces begin to reorganize ahead of the next election.

But Wambugu responded sharply, dismissing the claims and accusing Njoroge of attempting to undermine him for political reasons.

He alleged that the digital strategist could be motivated by her own political ambitions, suggesting that she may be positioning herself to benefit from Gachagua’s influence as she prepares to contest a seat in future elections.

The dispute comes at a time when Jubilee Party is undergoing a significant political transition. Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has already endorsed Matiang’i as the party’s presidential flag bearer for 2027 and is reportedly considering handing over party leadership to him.

The move has stirred debate within the party and the broader opposition landscape.

Meanwhile, Gachagua has advised Matiang’i to form his own political party instead of relying on Jubilee’s platform.
