"If Uhuru Didn’t Help Raila When He Had All The Power, What About You Now?” MPs tell Matiang’i

Some Kisii Members of Parliament allied to President William Ruto have urged former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to stop relying on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in his bid for the presidency.

The MPs, who spoke on Sunday in Kisii County, told Dr Matiang’i that the former president would let him down just as he allegedly did to the late former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

Addressing congregants during a church service at Nyansakia village, Kegogi, in Kitutu Chache North Constituency, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) team warned Dr Matiang’i to prepare for humiliation if he places all his hopes on Mr Kenyatta.

Led by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and the President’s personal assistant Farouk Kibet, the MPs claimed that Dr Matiang’i is not a figure capable of intimidating Dr Ruto in the presidential race. They added that he has not done enough to convince Kenyans across the country to support him.

Mr Bwire expressed confidence that President Ruto would win a second term in the 2027 elections, claiming the Head of State has succeeded in uniting Kenyans and initiating numerous development projects.

“I want to tell your son to stop relying on the former president to make him president. If Uhuru Kenyatta failed to help Raila Odinga win in the 2022 contest, do you think he will make Dr Matiang’i president?” Taveta MP John Bwire declared.

According him, Mr Uhuru Kenyatta misled former prime minister Raila Odinga in 2022 presidential elections, and he is doing the same to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i ahead of 2027 elections.

“Let me tell you, the person misleading your son is the one who misled Raila Odinga.” he added.

Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe urged Dr Matiang’i to consider working with Dr Ruto and then pursue his political ambitions in 2032.

He asked the Abagusii community to learn from the 2002 elections, when they also had a presidential candidate in the late former Roads Minister Simeon Nyachae, who lost to the late Mwai Kibaki.
