RIP: Shock as Senior Nurse Is Brutally Murdered and Buried in a Shallow Grave in Nyamira

Police in Nyamira have confirmed that a body dug up from a shallow grave in Nyamauro Village belongs to a missing senior nurse who vanished last month.

Officials stated that the remains, initially discovered in a shallow pit in Nyakenimo Sub-location, were identified as those of Duke Nyang’au Obasancho, a 41-year-old man previously reported missing.

Police added that the National Registration Bureau conducted the identification, providing a breakthrough in the case first reported on February 23, 2026.

At the time he went missing, Obasancho was serving as a medical superintendent and community health nursing officer at Nyamusi Sub-County Hospital.

Early investigations showed that the body had a neck wound, suggesting he had been killed.

Authorities believe he was murdered and secretly buried in the shallow grave.

His remains are being kept at Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to reveal more details.

Police have stepped up enquiries into the incident, treating it as a suspected homicide. Officers said they are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding his death and to identify those responsible.

They noted that while there are promising leads, no arrests have been made so far.

The case has raised concern among local residents and medical professionals, given the victim’s role in the health sector.

Police confirmed that the motive behind the killing remains unknown.

Obasancho hailed from Manga Sub-county, Kemera Location, in Nyamira County, and his death has left the community mourning the loss of a respected healthcare worker.
