A mathematics and physics teacher from Kenya has captured national attention after delivering a confident and articulate speech before William Ruto during a State House meeting with members of the Akorino community.
The teacher, Esther Githinji, impressed both leaders and attendees with her eloquence, academic achievements, and bold advocacy on key social issues affecting women and students.
Githinji, who serves as a Mathematics and Physics teacher at Embarigo Secondary School, introduced herself with remarkable composure. She revealed that she also holds leadership roles at the institution as a deputy headteacher and dean of students, highlighting her commitment to both academic excellence and student mentorship.
In addition to her work in secondary education, she disclosed that she is affiliated with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology as a lecturer.
She holds a Master’s degree in Geothermal Sciences and is currently pursuing a PhD in the same field, a milestone that drew admiration from many.
During the State House engagement, Githinji used the opportunity to address pressing issues affecting women, particularly within the Akorino community.
She urged the government to fully implement the two thirds gender rule, stressing that many qualified women remain underrepresented in leadership and public service.
She further called for increased inclusion of women in top government positions such as ambassadorial and senior administrative roles, noting that educated women are ready to serve and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Her speech also touched on challenges faced by Akorino students in schools. She raised concerns about restrictions on wearing turbans in some institutions, especially in certain religious-sponsored schools, arguing that such policies limit freedom of worship and expression.
Githinji’s remarks stood out for their clarity, courage, and relevance, especially given the limited time she had to speak.
Her ability to articulate complex issues in a composed manner left a strong impression on the audience, including the president.
Following the event, many Kenyans praised her confidence and achievements, with some describing her as a symbol of progress within the Akorino community.
Others noted that her story reflects a broader shift, where more members of the sect are embracing education and excelling in professional fields.
Her appearance at State House not only highlighted her personal journey but also underscored the importance of education, gender equality, and inclusivity in shaping Kenya’s future.
As conversations around representation and empowerment continue, Githinji’s voice adds to the growing call for equal opportunities and recognition of merit across all communities.
