Babu Owino Accuses PS Omollo Of Sending DCI Officers To Arrest His Bodyguard Before Kisumu Rally

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has accused Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo of deploying DCI officers to arrest his security officer Oliver Ochieng in what he described as a deliberate attempt to frustrate the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally in Kisumu.

Owino made the allegations in a Facebook post on April 22 2026 where he declared that the intimidation would not stop him or his team from proceeding with the rally as planned.

"We will not bow to State intimidation. The Kisumu rally will proceed as planned," Owino wrote framing the alleged move against his bodyguard as a politically motivated operation orchestrated from within government circles.

This is not the first time Owino has publicly clashed with Omollo over security matters tied to the Linda Mwananchi tour.

In February 2026 he claimed DCI officers were flown from Nairobi to Kisumu Central Police Station to detain members of his security team following a Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega County.

In a separate Citizen TV Sunday Live interview aired on February 22 2026 Owino went further claiming Omollo had arranged for more than 200 armed goons at Kisumu International Airport to block him and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna from flying to Kakamega for the rally.

"We will be there in Kakamega and you cannot stop this rally. It is bigger than you," Owino said at the time.

The Linda Mwananchi tour has been a consistent flashpoint with Owino claiming in February that Omollo was organising Kisumu goons to disrupt the movement's planned events in the region.

Online reaction to Owino's latest post has been sharp and divided. Supporters flooded the comments with messages of solidarity declaring they would show up in Kisumu on Sunday.

Others mocked Omollo with dismissive comments while some Kisumu youth accused Owino of self-interest and questioned his motives for pushing ahead despite the tensions.

The DCI had not issued any public statement addressing the allegations as of the time of filing while the Ministry of Interior also remained silent on the matter.

The dispute has raised broader concerns about the deployment of security agencies for political purposes ahead of the 2027 elections and whether opposition politicians can freely organise and hold public gatherings without interference from state machinery.
