Gaucho Lands Himself In Trouble After He Did This At Mama Lucy Hospital Days After His Appointment

Newly appointed Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital board member Calvince Gaucho has found himself at the center of a storm after he went live on TikTok while touring the hospital's wards, exposing patients to a public audience without their consent.

During the ward tour, Gaucho switched his TikTok account to live mode as board members walked through the hospital corridors.

At least 370 viewers were watching in real time as the camera captured patients in various states, some lying on beds, others walking down the corridor, one cradling a newborn, and another visibly in pain as she struggled to lean against a wall.

The backlash was immediate and fierce. Kenyans on social media condemned the act as a gross violation of patient privacy and dignity, with many questioning why a board member would think it appropriate to stream inside a hospital ward at all.

Health and gender activist Dr. Bosire Wairimu called out the act directly, tagging the Ministry of Health, the DCI, and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, describing the live stream as criminal.

Others questioned Gaucho's appointment to the board in the first place, pointing to his limited education and lack of relevant experience as reasons why such a basic understanding of patient rights would be missing.

Patient privacy in Kenya is legally protected under the Constitution, the Data Protection Act of 2019, and the Health Act of 2017, which requires written consent before any health information is disclosed or shared.

Gaucho's appointment had already attracted widespread criticism from Kenyans who felt he was unqualified for such a sensitive role.

His TikTok live session has now added a serious legal dimension to those concerns, with calls growing for accountability from the relevant authorities.
