The Iranian Embassy in Nairobi has criticised Kenya following remarks by Korir Singoei over Iran’s strikes on Gulf nations, particularly the United Arab Emirates.
In a statement issued on April 7, Iran rejected claims that it is the aggressor, insisting its actions are lawful responses to earlier attacks by the United States and Israel on its territory.
According to the embassy, recent drone and missile strikes targeting Gulf infrastructure form part of a defensive strategy after what it described as a large-scale offensive launched in late February.
Iran maintained it had previously warned neighbouring Gulf countries that any aggression originating from their soil would provoke retaliation under its right to self-defence, in line with international law.
Singoei had earlier condemned the attacks, terming them unjustified and warning of their economic and environmental risks.
He also expressed Kenya’s solidarity with the UAE, reflecting the position of William Ruto, who has consistently called for de-escalation.
In response, Iran urged Kenya to condemn the US and Israel instead, while reiterating its willingness to pursue diplomatic solutions based on mutual respect, even as it vowed to defend its sovereignty and security.
