Religious leaders from the Luo Nyanza region have publicly differed with a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders opposing the broad-based government arrangement with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the clergy urged leaders in the region to embrace cooperation with the President, arguing that the late Raila Odinga had already set the tone for collaboration.
Their remarks come amid growing divisions within ODM, with a faction under the “Linda Mwananchi” banner pushing for Ruto’s removal from office in the next election.
Meanwhile, President Ruto reaffirmed a strong political bond between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), describing the partnership as a strategic effort to promote national unity.
Speaking in Nyamira, the Head of State emphasized that the two parties would continue working together, noting that their cooperation is aimed at delivering development to Kenyans.
Ruto also dismissed what he termed as underhanded efforts to create divisions within the alliance, warning leaders against fueling disunity.
He maintained that the broad-based government is a shared responsibility and was formed to steer the country away from divisive tribal politics.
The developments highlight emerging political realignments in the Nyanza region as the country gradually shifts focus toward the 2027 elections.
