Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday arrived in Libreville, Gabon, ahead of the 17th High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security and Stability in Africa.
The gathering brings together senior leaders, diplomats, peace experts, and regional organizations to discuss strategies aimed at strengthening peacebuilding efforts across the continent.
This year’s retreat is being held under the theme “Powering Ceasefires, National Dialogue and Reconciliation for Durable Peace.”
The discussions will focus on finding long-term solutions to conflicts affecting different regions of Africa while encouraging stronger cooperation among member states and international partners.
The event has attracted representatives from the African Union, regional economic blocs, the United Nations, and various peace and security institutions.
Participants are expected to exchange experiences and propose practical measures to improve conflict prevention, mediation, reconciliation, and post-conflict recovery.
Uhuru Kenyatta has in recent years remained actively involved in continental peace initiatives, often participating in mediation and diplomatic engagements in different parts of Africa.
His attendance at the retreat highlights Kenya’s continued role in supporting regional stability and dialogue efforts.
According to organizers, retreat aims to strengthen coordination between governments, institutions, and stakeholders involved in peace processes.
Emphasis will also be placed on addressing the root causes of instability, including political tensions, insecurity, and humanitarian challenges affecting communities.
