"We Can't Support Kalonzo, Ruto Has Sacrificed A Lot For Us" CS Wandayi Tells Orengo

CS Opiyo Wandayi has sharply criticized Siaya Governor James Orengo over remarks suggesting that he is leading the Luo community to rally behind Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a public event, Wandayi dismissed Orengo’s claims as baseless and misleading, insisting that political decisions within the Luo region cannot be shaped by one individual’s declarations.

Wandayi argued that President William Ruto has made significant sacrifices for Azimio leader Raila Odinga and the wider Luo nation, contrary to the narrative being pushed by sections of Luo leaders.

He stated that Ruto played a key role in supporting Raila’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, a process that required diplomatic negotiations and high-level lobbying.

According to Wandayi, this gesture demonstrated goodwill and a commitment to fostering national unity, regardless of political differences.

The Cabinet Secretary further noted that President Ruto’s administration has initiated several development projects in the Luo region, signaling an intention to ensure equal distribution of national resources.

He said that infrastructure upgrades, improved access to water, and investments in health facilities are among the projects that the people of Nyanza have benefited from under the current government.

Wandayi warned local leaders against using the Luo community to advance personal political agendas or sow division ahead of the upcoming elections.

He emphasized that decisions on political alliances or endorsements should be made collectively and based on the community’s broader interests rather than individual ambitions.

The CS urged residents to remain united and resist attempts to create political rifts within the region.

He maintained that the Luo community should focus on development and political stability as the country approaches another election cycle, instead of being drawn into premature succession debates.
