Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has suffered a political setback after Juja MP George Koimburi withdrew his support for Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Koimburi’s decision comes just days after he was spotted hanging out with Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina and her husband, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, both known allies of President William Ruto.
The meeting with the Murang'a Woman Rep and Wamumbi had already sparked speculation about Koimburi's political future, which has now been confirmed by his dramatic exit from Gachagua’s camp.
Speaking on Wednesday after attending a funeral service for four family members who tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Naivasha on January 4, 2025, Koimburi announced that he had cut ties with DCP, accusing the party of fraud and moral decay.
The Juja MP claimed the party had deviated from its founding values and was now dominated by criminal elements.
“Hii chama imejaa wakora tupu (This party is full of fraudsters),” Koimburi said, alleging that money had replaced principle within the party.
The Juja lawmaker claimed that individuals opposed to him politically were welcomed into DCP with warm hands after allegedly paying Sh5 million, a move he said undermined loyalty and integrity.
The MP further revealed that despite remaining loyal to the party for months, he was later sidelined and deliberately undermined.
According to Koimburi, his troubles intensified following the entry of Alois Kinyanjui, a brother to former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, who was recently seen in the company of Gachagua during a church service in Gatundu South on Sunday.
Although Koimburi did not mention Kinyanjui by name, he alleged that the move was strategically designed to weaken his political standing in Juja.
Koimburi’s exit has raised fresh questions about the stability of DCP and its ability to retain key leaders, as President Ruto's UDA party continues to regain ground it lost after Gachagua's impeachment in 2024.
Earlier in the week, while speaking during an interview on Kameme FM, Gachagua was asked about Koimburi’s silence despite being one of his most vocal supporters during and after his impeachment in 2024.
The DCP party leader acknowledged the Juja MP’s absence from key party events but played down the impact of his departure, insisting it would not affect the party’s trajectory.
